Chapter 6-9: ThisKidsNotAlright

It wasn’t long before Evangeline would find out how hectic a house would be with four school-age children. With the nice weather, she decided to have the twins’ birthday down at the beach.

“Do you like the water,” Evangeline cooed to her only daughter, taking joy out of the last few moments she’d be tiny. Hanley just giggled and begged for more.

When the time came to blow out the cake, everyone gathered around. Miles put his arm around a beautiful, statuesque blonde as he watched his daughter attempt to blow out her candle.

“Did you see her?”
“Who?”
“The woman Miles brought. She looks like a model!”
“Evangeline, you guys broke up. You don’t expect him to just pine over you for 50 years, do you?”
“No. But it’s his kids’ birthday; a family event. She’s not family. He could have at least let me know he was bringing someone.”
“Ah, I get it.”
“There’s nothing to get. I just wish he had the decency to be courteous about it.”
“No, you’re pissed because he didn’t tell you and give you enough time to find a date of your own. It’s not a game Evangeline. No one wins the breakup by moving on first.”
“I don’t know what you’re talking about,” Evangeline’s denial was marked by her sudden interest in her cake, staring down at it and avoiding any further eye contact with her friend.

“Alright guys, get together so I can take a picture of all of you with your dad.” They crowded up around Miles and, after some jostling and possibly pinching (Evangeline couldn’t tell with the shrieking if someone was really hurt or just being loud) the kids finally posed for her camera. “Great! I’ll get copies made for all of you and we can put them in your rooms.”

“Mommy, come be in the picture with us!” Hanley beckoned her mother forward.
“Honey, I’m taking the picture.”
“Aunt Ren can take it, can’t you,” she said turning to her aunt. Renata, looking at Evangeline, shrugged her shoulders and came forward to take the photographer’s place.
“Renata,” Evangeline hissed at her friend, smile plastered over her face to hide her discomfort.
“What was I supposed to do, tell her my hand’s broken?”

Evangeline made her way over to the group and slide in next to Miles. They stood together, keeping as much space between them as possible and tried to avoid touching.
“Mommy, you’re doing it wrong! Here, let me show you!” Hanley thrust her arms out behind her brothers and held them each while striking a pose. “Now you do it!”
Evangeline sighed but Miles put his arm around her and pulled her closer, all pretending to be a big, happy family. The camera still caught the tension on their faces despite their attempt to pretend otherwise.

“Gemma, wake up! It’s time for school!” Hanley was excited for her first day. Gemma, having been there before and being somewhat of a loser couldn’t care less and stayed snuggled in her bed until the last possible minute.

In the other room, both the boys were awake and commemorating Halden’s first day with a good old fashioned pillow fight.

“Can I do my homework in here with you?”
“Gemma, this is the boy room. You have your own desk.”
“But you’re really smart and can help me. I want to get on the honor roll like you.” Flynn sighed and went back to his own homework. Maybe if he ignored her, she’d go away. Instead, she plopped on the floor of his room and began going over her math problems.

“Eight times one is eight. Eight times two is sixteen. Eight times three is…is…twenty six. Wait, no.” Sounds of vigorous erasing permeated the room.
“Gemma! I’m trying to concentrate!”
“I’m being quiet!”
“No, you’re not. You’re doing your tables out loud!”
“Oh, I am? Sorry.” She didn’t realize that she was muttering the problems. Saying it out loud just seemed to help her remember. “Eight times four is thirty four. Ugh! I’m never going to get this.” Flynn got up and stomped out of his own bedroom, slamming the door behind him.

Leisure day arrived and with it, Miles’ turn to have the children for a holiday. They had the day off of school and his team didn’t have a game so it made perfect sense for Evangeline to take them into the city.
“Okay kids, be good for your dad okay? He’ll bring you home this afternoon before dinner.”

“Wow, look at you! You’re getting so big.” Miles hugged all of his children and they sat on the porch stoop, trying to decide how to spend the day.

“Let’s go to the zoo,” Hanley shouted.
“Honey, the zoo is in Bridgeport. We wouldn’t make it home in time.”
“I’m hungry, can we get lunch?”
“Flynn, we just had breakfast!” Halden corrected his brother. “Can we go to the park?”
“That sounds perfect. Let’s go to the park and then we can go get lunch. Sound good?”

The day was beautiful with light, fluffy clouds in the sky and just enough of a breeze that no one got too hot. Halden, interested in sports like his dad, worked on his throwing arm while Flynn and Hanley ran around the playground.
“You’re getting much better already,” Miles praised his son. He was proud that, even though he didn’t get to spend much time with them, his children looked up to him.

Checking his watch, he realized that they needed to start the drive back towards the suburbs if they wanted to get lunch and be back to Evangeline’s on time. They piled into his car and started the drive back towards their mother’s home, stopping at a local diner for lunch.

“Alright everyone, let’s get you guys home. Hanley, c’mon.”
“Wait daddy, I see something.”
“Hanley, stuff in alleys aren’t for little girls, let’s go!”

“Oh, you’re so cute. C’mere little kitty. Hi.”
“Mew.”

“Wanna sniff me?” The tiny kitten that had been hiding beside the ice bin timidly stepped forward hunkered down waiting to see what the 2 legged thing would do. It smelled nice and moved slowly. Maybe it wouldn’t try to kick him. And then, before he could scuttle away, the big thing picked him up. Oh, it’s actually being gentle. And then he felt a warm hand running soothingly along his back and all thoughts of squirming and escaping melted away.

“Hanley, what is that?”
“It’s a kitten daddy.”
“I can see it’s a kitten. Why are you bringing it in the car? It could be sick.”
“It’s lonely. It needs a home.”
“Your mother is going to kill me.”

“No Hanley! We don’t need a cat. We have four little kids living in this house to make enough of a mess.”
“But mommy. He was cold.”
“It’s summer, he was not cold.”
“But he would be, when it’s not summer anymore. Please, he needs a family. Everybody needs a family. Can’t we be his?” Evangeline sighed and acquiesced. She knew she would regret it later.

“Did you know that Hanley can’t read?” Miles stood with Evangeline in the front yard, sharing any information that she needed to know.
“Are you questioning my parenting Miles? Of course she can read! She reads all the time.”
“No Evangeline. I’m just concerned. We were driving home and she misread a billboard we drove past.”
“Oh.” She winced, realizing that she was once again, making assumptions and getting defensive without a need to. “I’m sorry. I’ll make her an appointment with the doctor and let you know how it goes, okay? Thank you.”

She spent the remainder of the afternoon playing Frisbee with Halden in the front.

Meanwhile, Hanley was introducing the newest member of the family to the house and giving him the grand tour. She pulled him close and planted a kiss on his ear. “Don’t worry, you’re safe now JuJu. We’ll take care of you and make sure you’re always warm and have food. And when you get old enough, you can sleep in bed with me.”

We have a cat now. A stinky cat that will shred our furniture and attack our feet. Needless to say, Renata was not happy about JuJu’s adoption. After a few weeks though, it became clear that, even though he was a stray, JuJu was well behaved. He hadn’t clawed anything to destruction and had acclimated to the litter box without issue.

“Can you believe I’m going to be a mother to a teenager in just a few days?” The two friends sat on the porch, enjoying their dinner and watching the sun set over the hills of St. Claire.
“Me too. Gemma won’t be far behind. I certainly don’t feel old enough for it. Pretty soon they’ll be dating and we’ll just be the batty old ladies that live together.”

“You and Emerson haven’t worked things out?”
“We see each other here and there. We spend time together with Gemma but, I don’t know. The few times we went on actual dates it just felt…awkward. He’s almost the father of a teenager but he’s still out partying at night, in the club while I sit home clipping coupons and doing laundry.”
“That doesn’t mean you can’t work things out. Opposites attract and all.”
“I want someone to share life with, not struggle to have something to even talk about. Aside from our daughter, we don’t share anything. Moving on, what about you? Any dates lately?”
“Here and there. I think I’m just happier alone.”
“I think you sti…”
“No, conversation over. Let’s clean up and get the kids to bed.”

Hanley’s doctor’s appointment revealed that she was near-sighted and needed glasses for seeing things far away. It was why she had misread a billboard but had no problem reading books she was holding.
“I look stupid.” Her lower lip quivered and Evangeline could see she was trying not to cry.
“You’re beautiful.”
“All the kids will make fun of me and call me four-eyes.”
“Don’t you ever let anyone else make you feel less than because you’re different. You’re special and perfect just the way you are.”

“Wow, Evey, you look beautiful.”
“Um, thanks Miles. Where’s Pauline?”
“She uh, she couldn’t make it. She had a work thing.”
“Oh, that’s too bad, maybe next time. You were right about Han. Thank you for telling me or who knows how long the poor girl wouldn’t have been able to see right.”

“Why can’t we be friends,” Gemma was confused as Rose Malone turned down her offer to play.
“Because she’s my friend,” Flynn explained. “Get your own.”

Rose and a few other of his schoolmates would be aging up with him and starting high school soon. He’d have just a little bit of time to enjoy school without his annoying cousin following him everywhere. Maybe when she became a teenager, she’d be less obnoxious? Yeah, that’s what I’ll wish for.

Chapter 6-8: Mean Streak

“Already working on your homework kiddo?”
                “Yeah, it’s easy though.
“That’s good! We always knew you were a smart cookie.”
“But that means it’s boring. Why do I have to do homework for stuff I already know how to do? Isn't homework supposed to be practice?”

When Evangeline got home from work that night, she fell onto the couch, exhausted. She’d had a long day at work; the ovens’ temperature gauge had malfunctioned, causing the stoves to run hotter than the cooks thought, burning a lot of the food. An employee had been demoted several ranks for failing to perform up to par. Then, Evangeline had nicked her hand while chopping onions and the frustrated kitchen manager had intimated that Evangeline could be demoted next if she didn't get her act together. On top of it all, she had received a call from Flynn’s teacher, asking for a meeting with her and the principal the next afternoon due to some behavioral problems that needed to be addressed.

“Are you feeling okay,” Renata sat on the couch across from her, already dressed for bed after putting the kids to sleep.
“Just a long day. I wish I could be there for Gemma’s party tomorrow.”
“She’ll see you when you get home. You shouldn't worry so much.”
“I know. It just sucks that I’ll miss it.” She sighed, already dreading the next day. “I've got to call Miles too. I’ll need to discuss this thing with Flynn with him.”
“Have you all talked to him at all lately?”
“No, not since that disastrous moment at the party. He’s been out of town so we haven’t had to work out custody yet. But he texted me yesterday and he’s back now and wants to see the kids.                 Joy.”

The next day, she arrived at the school just before her work shift. Luckily, the principal didn’t keep her waiting for long. She hoped she wouldn't be late to work.

                “Mrs. Avendale,” the principal begin.
                “Ms.”
                “Excuse me?”
                “It’s Ms. I’m not married.”
“That explains a lot,” the cross woman behind her scoffed. Evangeline closed her eyes for a moment and tried to focus on why she was here. “Don’t blow up, don’t blow up.”
“Your son is a menace. He rarely pays attention in class and he corrects me in front of other students. When I reprimand him, he sasses me. He has no manners and no respect for his elders.”
“Ms. Avendale, your son has been sent to my office previously but he does not seem interested in behaving in class. That said, he is quite bright and has excellent grades.”
“Have you tried giving him harder work? He told me that the work was too easy for him.”
“When he’s in my class, he gets the work assigned to my students! I don’t give do special treatment!”
“Mr. Sneed, I believe what she is trying to say is that she would like my son removed from her class. I’m agreeable to that solution as she doesn't appear to have the skills to handle a child with intelligence above her own. I’d like to get Flynn tested and see if he could possibly excel in a higher grade. If not, I’d greatly appreciate finding a teacher that has more patience and is willing to try to make the classroom more engaging for him. If your school doesn't offer that I’ll find a way to manage and get him and his siblings when they are school-age, into private school.”

Gemma’s birthday was a small affair, attended only by family.

When Evangeline pulled into the driveway, she noticed extra cars still there, including Miles’ car. She went in through the garage and caught Renata in the kitchen, cleaning up the remnants of birthday cake.

“Come here,” she hissed. “What’s he doing here?”
“Gemma is his niece and he wanted to see the kids. I can’t tell him he can’t see his children Evangeline. Plus, I know you wanted to talk to him.”
                “Not tonight!”
“Sorry. It’s too late now though. Flynn saw you drive up so everyone knows you’re home.” Evangeline sighed and started towards the dining room.

“Hey baby. Let me talk to your dad for a few minutes alone, then I’ll come up stairs and tell you a bedtime story. Go get ready, okay?”
“Kay mom! Bye daddy!” Flynn hugged his father and raced up the stairs.

“We need to consider private school for Flynn.” Evangeline relayed her meeting with the school to Miles, straightforward and all business.
“Huh, okay. I guess we can swing that, if they can’t find a suitable place for him. Whatever is best. Can we talk about us, please?”
“Miles, I've had a long day. A long week really. There’s nothing to talk about. What happened, happened and there’s no us anymore. No further discussion needed. Now I promised our son a bedtime story so I've got to go do that.”
                “Evey, please.”
“Don’t make this any harder than it has to be.” She stood, the conversation finished. “You’re welcome to see them whenever you want. I know your place isn't big enough for them all but you can come get them any time you’re in town. Just give me some advance notice. Goodnight Miles.”

                “Gemma! Ewwwww!”
“You walked in on me, get out jerkface!”

“Flynn! I was saving that French toast for me!”
“Your name wasn't on it so it’s mine now. You snooze you lose!”

A few weeks into spring, warm weather without the rain finally made it’s way into St. Claire. Evangeline brought the children outside and settled onto a beach towel to read a book.

“Watch where you’re throwing things! Don’t hit me or your siblings with those balloons Flynn.”
                “Kitty!”
“Hanley, no! Don’t touch that sweetie! That’s not a kitty.”
“Kitty!” “So much for relaxing outside.” Evangeline put her book up and sat, keeping a closer eye on everyone to ensure there were no bites or bruises.

“Are you excited about your date tonight?” Suddenly, Evangeline remembered that a co-worker had asked her out. This would be her first date since breaking up with Miles and she couldn't help but admit that she was nervous.

“This is so much more work than I remember.” Evangeline examined her face, realizing that she was slowly developing wrinkles around the corners of her eyes that no amount of make-up would hide.

“And then, he said ‘what the cheese, doodle,’” Gerard paused, waiting for Evangeline to laugh. “Um, I guess you had to be there.” Evangeline just lifted her drink to her lips again, taking a long swallow, hoping for the night to be over.

“Do you think our daddies will ever live with us,” Gemma asked Flynn as they shot hoops on the side of the house.
                “Maybe.”
“Everyone at school lives with their mommy and daddy. We’re weirdos because our mommies live together instead.”
“Who cares. Yes,” he exclaimed as he ball sank through the net. “I win again!”

“Why didn't you help me,” Gemma thrust her finger at her cousin as soon as they got off the bus. “When I tripped down the hall you walked right by me!”
                “I was with my friends!”
                “So?”
“So, I didn't want them to think I’m a loser like you!” He watched as her face fell but before she could cry, she turned and stalked off.

Her babies were growing up. Evangeline could tell each time she picked them up or even looked at them that, soon, they wouldn't be babies any longer. Working the evening shift at the restaurant was tiring but it gave her alone time with Hanley and Hal each morning that she could spend reading with them and playing games.

“Flynn, let’s place space adventurers!” All had been forgiven since the school incident. Gemma idolized her cousin and just wanted to be best friends with him which made forgiving him easy.
“Sure, come on into my spaceship.” She grinned and headed over to the tree house. The park near their house was small and didn't have much but the tree house was the reason they always came here.

“Oh no! Alien goo, watch out below!” Before she could even move, Gemma felt a cold gush of water whoosh over her. “Now you’re polluted with alien goo and you can’t come in the spaceship. You’d get the other astronauts sick!”
“I won’t get you sick with alien goo. I promise!”
“Yes you will. That’s what happens when you get infected. I can’t risk it.” Flynn might or might not have been watching a little too much tv lately.

Gemma wandered, dripping wet, over to the swing set and plopped down in the rubber seat. She sniffled and tried to hold back tears. Flynn was so mean to her. Not all the time. He teased her or ignored her when they were at school. He does everything with me when we’re home. He’s just being a boy. Boys can be mean sometimes. Maybe tomorrow they could play space adventurers together, without the alien goo.

“Which one of you did this?” Evangeline was the victim of a sneaky culprit’s trap on the sink and did not appreciate being soaked to the bone with a puddle quickly forming at her feet.
“Not me!” Both the kids yelled in unison. She glared at them, trying to decide who would have done it. Both their faces were completely innocent so she just huffed off as she went to the bathroom to shower and dry off while Renata mopped up the puddle.

What would the messes and pranks be like once the twins were old enough to contribute to the chaos?

Chapter 6.7                                                                                                                                                     Chapter 6.9

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I'm back-ish. It was really, really hard to get back into this story for some reason. For some reason, this generation is just giving me troubles now that they're "on their own". There is still some story left for our adults but there will be a lot more focus on the kids. I'm hoping to get the heir vote up fairly quickly, probably two more chapters. Though, with me, that could be months out. LOL.

Special thank you to Buckley who's a great sounding board for working ideas out!

Chapter 6-7: Unreachable

Exhausted, Evangeline left the hospital carrying a basket, like her children were a picnic lunch. She had no choice though as she hadn't prepared for the eventuality of twins. She figured that she shouldn't be that surprised. After all, she was a twin herself and her mom had mentioned distant family, many of who were twins as well. It seemed that twins, especially fraternal brother/sister twins were an Avendale tradition.

With both Donovan and Camille gone now and two new babies in the house, Evangeline and Renata had had no choice but to move into the master bedroom. It wasn't exactly the most ideal of set-ups but, other than converting the downstairs study into a bedroom, they would have to make due with the room they had. Eventually, Flynn would share a room with his little brother and Gemma would share a room with her cousin but, while they were still infants, Hanley and Halden shared a room.

Life settled into an exhausting routine. Feed the babies, change the babies and snuggle with each of them a bit before getting Flynn up and ready for the day. She’d spend time with him playing and reading before she had to get ready for work and then Renata would take over for the afternoon. When Evangeline got home from work, she’d check on the twins and make sure they were happy and snuggled before she trudged off to fall into a heavy, dreamless sleep.

Miles stopped by first thing after he got back from the latest set of away games. She stopped him in the hall so she could warn him before he went up to the nursery.

“I know we wanted to have more kids.”
“Evey, is everything okay? You said your labor went fine.”
                “Oh…yeah! It’s not bad. Just…we have twins.”
“Twins! That’s fantastic!” He hadn't been upset when she’d found out she was pregnant with Flynn. He took the news of the twins with excitement and happiness. Evangeline couldn't describe how lucky she was to have him.

With three children now, the small foldaway crib Miles had for overnight visits in his apartment just couldn’t cut it anymore so usually he came to visit them. She felt awkward asking him to stay the night though because there was no space for privacy, especially with Renata in the bunk above. The nights they spent together became more and more infrequent. And that was when he was even in town. It seemed that the team was traveling more often though Evangeline thought maybe it just seemed that way since she was so busy with the kids.

Before she even realized it, her birthday was right around the corner. Renata had been all for skipping a celebration entirely but Evangeline had overruled her.
“We’re full-fledged, mature adults now! We need to celebrate surviving this long!”

They decided to throw a party downtown and get out of the house for one night. Though it had been her idea, Evangeline was still a little uneasy leaving the kids in the care of a stranger. Usually at least one of the family was home with the kids all the time.

“This is fun, right?” Ashley, one of Evangeline’s coworkers, shouted over the music to make herself heard.
“Yeah.” Evangeline grimaced into her cocktail. Going out and partying with infants at home was stressful!

If only Evangeline had been able to see what was going on in the house, she might have decided to head home then. The babysitter, who had assured them in her interview that she loved kids and was thinking of becoming a teacher, was yelling at the babies and covering her ears, hating the screeching coming from the poop monsters.

The bartender pulled the cake from behind the counter while Renata and Evangeline scooted in close, friends crowded around behind them, to blow out their candles.

Unbeknownst to them, the babysitter had decided she had had enough and ran, screaming from the house. She left the doors unlocked, the lights on, and the kids were all just left where they had been sitting. No diapers had been changed; none of the children had been fed. It was only by sheer chance that the neighbors didn't notice the babysitter leaving and call social services. When Renata and Evangeline came home, they swore they wouldn't be hiring babysitters ever again.

Evangeline didn't like working out any more than she had as a child. Jogging was different. Jogging cleared her head and released all the stress she’d build up. With the snow at least ankle deep and the temperatures below freezing though, jogging wasn't the best option for staying in shape and she didn’t want her body to appear as though she’d had kids.

“My little boy, going to be all grown up soon!” She couldn't believe it was Flynn’s birthday and that he would soon be starting school.

“Cake!” She laughed and carried him over to the cake. Emerson ran in, just in time to join in the cheering. Miles had been able to make this party and would only be in town for a few more days before leaving, once again, for another trip. While she had been being honest when she’d told him that this arrangement worked, it was tiring trying to make sure to see him when he was in town, video chat with him when he was away, and make sure the kids got to know their daddy from so far away.

This is my party! Why is Uncle Em dancing on the counters? It’s supposed to be about me!

Miles and Evey had a special night planned for his last night in town. Renata had agreed to stay home to take care of all the kids while Evangeline spent the night with Miles. She was going to meet him at his place and then they’d head out for dinner and maybe dancing or a movie before coming back to his apartment. When she arrived, she noticed that his car wasn’t in his designated spot. She pulled out her phone and checked her text messages.

-babe running late. U know where the key is. Be there asap-

She let herself into the apartment and sat on the couch. A sneaky smile came over her face as she decided that reordering the night wouldn't make it any less special. She went upstairs to make herself at home in his bed and surprise him when he got there.

As she reached the top of the stairs, she noticed the bed unmade and a small slip of clothing up by the pillows. Stepping closer, she realized the navy blue sliver of cloth was a pair of underwear. And it certainly wasn't her underwear.

She angrily brushed the tears from her face. She should have known. Karma is a bitch and she knew that she probably deserved this after the way she had treated Neal so many years before. But why now? She didn't understand why karma had taken so long to exact its revenge. She rushed from the house, hoping she’d make it out before having to face Miles. She sent a text as she drove home.

-Sorry not feeling well. Really contagious. Don’t stop by, don’t want you sick.-

When her phone rang 20 minutes later, she let it go to voicemail. When it rang again, she’d made it home and forced Renata to pick up the phone, repeating the lie. Renata looked at her curiously but didn't ask.

For the next few weeks, she made sure to be busy whenever Miles called. Usually she let Flynn pick up the phone and talk to his dad before rushing Miles off the phone with some kind of baby emergency or another. Why am I being such a coward? She didn't know why she couldn't confront him but she couldn't bring it up. Every time she got the courage and had the words rehearsed in her head, she’d hear the phone ring and the indignant speech would float away, like smoke on a windy day.

She knew she couldn't avoid Miles forever. In fact, he was due to come back to town the day before Snowflake Day. Evangeline still didn't want to face him and had no idea what to say to him so she scheduled the holiday party for before he could get back to town. The twins were going to be toddlers as well she she made it a joint holiday/birthday party. She knew it was underhanded yet she didn't want the tension to ruin the party.

Imagine her surprise when she heard the front door open after all the guests had been seated and were taking turns digging out their presents. She glanced down the hallway and, as she saw his arrival, her stomach dropped.

Evangeline felt a light tap on her shoulder and she stood, peeling herself away from the festivities.
“Why didn't you wait until I got back?”
“Well, um,” she faltered. “It just worked better for everyone else this way,” she offered weakly.
“You've barely talked to me since last time I way home. What’s going on?”
She cracked. “You know what’s going on. I don’t know why you’re acting ignorant about it.”
“I have no idea what you’re talking about.”

“Fine, keep playing dumb,” she hissed. “I can’t deal with this now.” She knew that every eye in the room was awkwardly avoiding looking at her and Miles. She fought to put a smile on her face for the guests and stalked away, picking up Halden and carrying him to his cake. Renata followed suit and scooped Hanley up, bringing her to her cake. They blew out the candles together. When Evangeline looked up, Miles had left, apparently not wanting to cause any more of a scene.

Halden and Hanley were practically identical, from the color of their hair and eyes, to the shape of their noses.  Evangeline hoped that they’d grow up to be friends like she and Emerson had.

Gemma wasn't so sure about having to share all the toys with the babies now. Before she could toddle off to find and claim her rabby, Renata scooped her up and carried her upstairs for her night time bath.

“You’re getting so big! Your birthday is right around the corner and then you can go to school with Flynn.” At the word school, Gemma frowned at her mother. She didn't want to go to school. She didn't want to leave the house and her toys and her cousins to go to some big building by herself. Even if Flynn would be there, he was older so she’d be all alone.

“Flynn, go on and get upstairs and ready for bed,” he heard his mother call as she cleaned up the kitchen from the party. He gave his brother and sister each a hug before running up the stairs to brush his teeth. He wanted to be the best big brother ever.

With the kitchen finally clean and the leftovers put away, Evangeline finally was able to get the twins bathed and ready for bed. She stared into Hal’s eyes, eyes that looked so much like his father’s, and knew that she would have to talk to Miles eventually to at least work out a custody arrangement. She sighed and kissed her baby boy on the head, tousled Flynn’s hair, and slunk off to her own bed.

Chapter 6.6                                                                                                                                                   Chapter 6.8

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Yet another filler chapter for the most part. Pretty much the only thing happening in game right now are birthdays. All the drama in the early chapters and now it's just mundane, ho-hum nothings. I've already picked a favorite and am ready to move on with that story, even though that story hasn't even been chosen by an heir vote yet.

I had planned on having Evangeline go kick that babysitter's ass but she seems to be completely missing from the game. I know she interacted with Flynn, if just to pick him up and plop him in the playpen but she doesn't appear in any of the relationship panels anywhere. It's like she never existed. I've pretty much failed the Fighter goal anyway. I realized (was informed) that Fighter should be actual physical altercations, not just arguing/fighting which was how I had been playing it all along.

Hopefully next chapter I'll have a little more juicy bits of the story. Maybe it will even be plot driven!
